Hurry up and submit your competition entries before time is up. On-line entry form will be disabled on Friday, February 29th at approximately 8:00pm. If this is a problem, let me know so we can make arrangements. The on-line registration will still be active so you will still be able to register for the event
Also, this note from our Director
While you are at the Bluebonnet website registering your beers, you can also reserve a room for the event at the Bluebonnet room rate of $89 a night. This room rate will be in effect until March 3rd. After the 3rd, we cannot guarantee this room rate. Looking at the regular hotel website, they are listing the rooms at $109 - 129 a night so we are getting a decent reduction in price for the rooms (so I highly advise getting a reservation in place).

On-line registration will be activated later this week, so be watching this site. An announcement will be posted here when it is up and running.

|
|
|
| |
|
|
Please be sure to register for the hotel online or by phone before March 3rd. They are putting a strict deadline on us and won't guarantee the room rate of $89 after that day.

If your club wants to reserve a room for the infamous "Room Crawl" at the event hotel Friday night you must let me know ASAP so you can get a prime spot assigned in the reserved area. I will be the one who designates your room number once I get confirmation of your reservation. Call the Hotel to reserve the room in the name of your hosting brew club at 972-399-1010. There will be an extra charge of $25 to have the furniture removed to make room for guests and/or bars, props, beer, etc. You must specify this extra service or it won't happen. Next call to let me know you have reserved a spot so I can assign your room number at 972-606-4856.

Bluebonnet Brew-off Website Back in Business! Kudos go out to webmaster Mark Wedge who has resurected the website from the ashes of juvenile mischief. That's right folks, for those who did not know the past several weeks the website was totally destroyed by unknown hackers. Must have been under-age wine snobs or something...who would do that to a site dedicated to Beer and homebrewing? Be sure and watch this site in the next few weeks for the updated event information.
Cheers!

OK guys....the hotel WILL remove beds from the room crawl room on a request basis only. Fee is $25 billed to the room. All other furniture will remain. I need to know in the next 3 days or so, to satisfy the engineering staff there. Contact me with your yes or no, on bed removal. No need to call the hotel directly - I will handle it for you as we plot the Room Crawl arrangement. Once again, keep in mind that hotel staff members will be on the judging committee. Please don't damage walls, etc while decorating. The competition is going to be stiff. Let the games begin!!!!

There will be a new event held at this year's Bluebonnet Brew-off. For those that do not go on the Pub Crawl we will have a hospitality room available during that time. The hospitality room will be called Gidgets, Gadgets, and Gizmos. In the room we will have all manner of homebrewing equipment and displays. Also there will be homebrew. The focus of the hospitatlity room is sharing ideas on equipment and procedures with other brewers. If you would like to display something or donate some homebrew please contact Bryan Cruce at bmc0001@unt.edu. Bryan is the brain child of this event and will be coordinating the displays.

The 2003 edition of the Bluebonnet Brewoff is fast approaching and we would like to encourage you to participate. The Bluebonnet Brewoff is the largest single site homebrewing competition in the United States. It follows that we need a large number of judges at all skill levels. As a 5-time Bluebonnet participant I can honestly say that the quality of the judging has been the single most important factor in the quality of the competition overall.
First round judging will occur from 9AM-5PM on March 8 & 9 at two locations:
FORT WORTH Coors Distribution Center 2550 McMillian Parkway Ft. Worth, TX 76137-5001 | DALLAS Willow Distributing 2601 Cockrell Ave. Dallas, TX 75215-2510 |

The keynote speaker for the Bluebonnet Brew-off 2003 has been determined. It is with the Bluebonnet Brew-off committee's great pleasure to announce that Dr. Chris White from White Labs, Inc. will be the keynote speaker. Chris will give the keynote speech at the friday night dinner and also give a technical talk on saturday morning.
Chris White gained a passion for fermentation studies as an undergraduate student at UC Davis. He 'accidentally' enrolled in Dr. Michael Lewis' Brewing & Malting Science course, and soon after began brewing at home. Chris went on to earn a Ph.D. in biochemistry from UC San Diego, and soon
after decided to follow his passion for brewing science.
Chris founded White Labs, Inc. in 1995, in order to manufacture and supply yeast to the growing American brewing industry. White Labs, Inc. is now a major supplier of yeast to the worlds fermentation industry.
Chris White is currently the president of White Labs, Inc., and is a lecturer in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at the University of California, San Diego. He is also part owner of Cold Creek Publishing Co., producer of 'BrewMaster, The Craft Beer Game' and 'The Craft Beer Quarterly'. Chris is a member of the American Society for Brewing Chemists and the Master Brewers Association of America, and judges at many national competitions, including the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup. | |
